About Me
My name is Jennifer and I am a 31 year old stay at home mom to 3 daughters ranging in age from 2 to 11 years old.
I have been a book lover ever since I picked up my first Baby-Sitter's Club book. Although my tastes change over time, books have always been my escape from the reality that is life.
I have always been surrounded by non-readers, those who believe that reading can't possibly compare to the movies, television shows and video games of today. Books allow almost a total submersion into place, time and storyline, forcing readers to use their minds to envision the action on the page. For me, books win out every time.
My Reading Interests
I'm not what you would call a snobbish reader. I'll read a book in any genre as long as it speaks to me in some way. I'll choose a book to read because I've loved the authors previous work, because it has an interesting synopsis, because it has a pretty cover, because others have recommended it highly, because a favorite author is blurbed on the cover or any combination of these things.
I read both adult and YA titles. I occasionally read middle-grade books if they spark my interest.
My preferred genres are fantasy (traditional, dark, urban), mystery (cozy, detective, forensic), speculative fiction (alternate history, horror, dystopian, apocalyptic), chicklit, and romance (contemporary, paranormal). This is not an all-inclusive list by any means. On occasion, I also enjoy literary fiction, hard sci-fi and the "classics" among others.
There are very few books that I'll refuse to read. They're mostly Christian Fiction, Military Fiction, Western and Self-Help books and even they sometimes (if very rarely) slip into my TBR.
About Reading with Tequila
I don't suggest literally reading with tequila. Books take a significant amount of time to read and if you spend that time drinking tequila, your vision will get blurry and there's a good chance you'll throw up all over your book. Tequila does that.
To me, tequila has always signified celebration, that party attitude and good things to come. I had my very first shot of tequila on my high school graduation trip to Cancun. In my early twenties, my friends and I would do a shot of tequila together before heading out for a night on the town. The first conversation I ever had with my husband was about a shot of tequila.
To me, reading with tequila means reading with a relaxed, carefree attitude. Reading is exciting, it's soothing, it's something to anticipate highly and it should always be celebrated. Just like any good tequila.
About This Blog
Reading with Tequila was created as a way to take my reading from a solitary activity to something more community based. I review books, hold giveaways and contests, host and participate in reading challenges, and provide a platform to help both new and established authors interact with readers through guest blogs and interviews.
Authors, Publishers and Other Book Promoters
I would love to hear from you. Please visit my review policy page for information about book review submissions and other promotional opportunities.
Reviews
Books are reviewed and rated based on my personal response to the book, not their literary merit. I am not a professional reviewer and I'll happily leave the critical assessments up to them. My reviews are explanations of what I liked and what I didn't like. I don't expect everyone to agree with my thoughts and welcome differing opinions in the comments. I'm not always going to like what the majority does and vice versa.
Disclosure
I occasionally receive free books from authors and publishers. Reviews and ratings are in no way influenced by promotional or advanced reader's copies. If I like it, I like it. If I don't, I don't. The source is of no concern.
Amazon sales links are included in each review. I receive a tiny percentage of the price of the book if you buy through one of these links. Any money received from these sales goes towards giveaway shipping costs and blog hosting fees. Read my full disclosure policy for more information.
Giveaways and Contests
All giveaways and contests are open to US residents ages 13 and over. International giveaways and contests are held occasionally and will always be stated as such. Giveaway winners are randomly chosen using random.org. Contest winners are chosen based on the rules stated in each specific contest post. I reserve the right to disqualify any entrant based on dishonesty.
