Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison
Duma Key by Stephen King
Your Heart Belongs to Me by Dean Koontz
Slept Away by Julie Kraut
But this summer Laney’s mother has other plans for Laney. It’s called Camp Timber Trails and rustic doesn’t even begin to describe the un-air-conditioned log cabin nightmare. Laney is way out of her element—the in-crowd is anything but cool, popularity seems to be determined by swimming skills, and the activities seem more like boot camp than summer camp.
Splattered with tie dye fall out, stripped of her cell, and going through Diet Coke withdrawal, Laney is barely hanging on. Being declared the biggest loser of the bunk is one thing, but when she realizes her summer crush is untouchably uncrushable in the real world, she starts to wonder, can camp cool possibly translate to cool cool?
Summer camp might just turn this city girl’s world upside down!
Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison
All the creatures of the night gather in "the Hollows" of Cincinnati, to hide, to prowl, to party ... and to feed.
Vampires rule the darkness in a predator-eat-predator world rife with dangers beyond imagining -- and it’s Rachel Morgan's job to keep that world civilized.
A bounty hunter and witch with serious sex appeal and an attitude, she'll bring 'em back alive, dead ... or undead.
Duma Key by Stephen King
NO MORE THAN A DARK PENCIL LINE ON A BLANK PAGE. A HORIZON LINE, MAYBE.
BUT ALSO A SLOT FOR BLACKNESS TO POUR THROUGH...
A terrible accident takes Edgar Freemantle's right arm and scrambles his memory and his mind, leaving him with little but rage as he begins the ordeal of rehabilitation. When his marriage suddenly ends, Edgar begins to wish he hadn't survived his injuries. He wants out. His psychologist suggests a new life distant from the Twin Cities, along with something else:
"Edgar, does anything make you happy?"
"I used to sketch."
"Take it up again. You need hedges...hedges against the night."
Edgar leaves for Duma Key, an eerily undeveloped splinter of the Florida coast. The sun setting into the Gulf of Mexico calls out to him, and Edgar draws. Once he meets Elizabeth Eastlake, a sick old woman with roots tangled deep in Duma Key, Edgar begins to paint, sometimes feverishly; many of his paintings have a power that cannot be controlled. When Elizabeth's past unfolds and the ghosts of her childhood begin to appear, the damage of which they are capable is truly devastating.
The tenacity of love, the perils of creativity, the mysteries of memory and the nature of the supernatural -- Stephen King gives us a novel as fascinating as it is gripping and terrifying.
Your Heart Belongs to Me by Dean Koontz
For one man, they are the five most terrifying words of all . . .
One year after the heart transplant that saved his life, thirty-five-year-old Ryan Perry has never felt better. He’s getting back everything he nearly lost forever—his business, his his life, and, with luck, his beloved girlfriend. Miracles do happen.
Then the unmarked gifts begin to arrive—a box of candy hearts, a heart pendant. Most disturbing of all is a graphic heart-surgery video and its chilling message: Your heart belongs to me. Ryan is being stalked by someone who feels entitled to everything he has. She’s the spitting image of the twenty-six-year-old donor of the heart beating steadily in Ryan’s own chest. And she’s come to take it back.

Slept Away by Julie Kraut
Laney Parker is a city girl through and through. For her, summertime means stepping out of her itchy gray school uniform and into a season of tanning at rooftop swimming pools, brunching at sidewalk cafes, and—as soon as the parents leave for the Hamptons—partying at her classmates’ apartments.
But this summer Laney’s mother has other plans for Laney. It’s called Camp Timber Trails and rustic doesn’t even begin to describe the un-air-conditioned log cabin nightmare. I couldn't finish 'Dead Witch Walking' but that maybe because it's more female orientated than a book for guys.
Duma Key isn't Stephen King at his best but is okay.
I'm not a fan of Mr Koontz.
I guess I choose 'Slept Away'! :)
Jennifer, I voted for SLEPT AWAY. I thought it looked cute, went to look at it on Amazon, thought I might like it, and realized (as Amazon reminded me) that I loaded it on my Kindle last fall. LOL
You know those books that you get because you just "have to have" them? Then, they sit there? Hmmm......
voted for slept away ,all the way it looks awesome!
torn between Your Heart Belongs to Me and Slept Away.
but Slept Away is more like something I need now so I'll choose Slept Away :D
I read the Koontz book quite a while back. It was just okay. The only other author I am familiar with is King, so my vote is Duma Key.
I usually do not answer these unless I have read one of the books. In this case, I voted for Duma Key. It's an absolute must-read, IMO. This was by far one of my favorite King books! I could not put it down.
I chose Dead Witch Walking because I have a friend who LOVES those books. She is always trying to get me to read them, but I just haven't found the time yet.
Hi Jennifer, the only one I've read of this batch is Dead Witch Walking. I woudl recommend you to read it: it is a very entertaining, well written, funny and original urban fantasy, with a very human witch heroine who isn't perfect and fearless. I liked this 1st book, rated it a 4stars read, but I've been unanimousl told that the series will get better, so we have to go on. :-)
(Slept Away is a book I haven't heard about but which I put now on my wishlist as it sounds interesting.)
I LOVE the Kim Harrison series! It's urban paranormal fantasy, not unlike the Patricia Briggs series about Mercy Thompson. Rachel's partner is a living vampire who lives in denial of her nature, and another partner who is a pixie (married with tons of adorable little pixie kids), plus toss in detective werewolf who claims her as his Alpha (later), a soon-to-be incredibly hot living vampire boyfriend (not unlike Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer), an obsessed Demon hunting her down pretty much all the time, oh yea and a pet Gargoyle down the line. I love it!
I voted for Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison, I've read it and I enjoyed. It's a great series.
I voted Dean Koontz because I read this book and really enjoyed it.
I hope when you read it you enjoy it also:)
I voted for Dead Witch Walking because of the laziest reason in the world--I want to see what you think before I read it LOL.
I chose Slept Away because it looks like a good read!

Definitely Dead Witch Walking! I LOVE this series :-) I recently read the most recent book, Black Magic Sanction. Not my favorite in the series but still really good!
