*Prize Week* What Should I Read This Week? (9)

Welcome to "What Should I Read This Week?" in which I present you with 4 books that I have committed to reading for challenges, but am having a hard time getting motivated to read. You tell me which one you think I should read this week through the poll at the bottom of the post. Please leave a comment with why you chose the book you did because every once in a while I'll be picking a random commenter to win a book from the Prize Bin.

Last week Coma won with 41% of the vote.

This weeks potential reads are:
Merrick by Anne Rice
Talbot, a vampire familiar to Rice readers, though now inhabiting a different body, relates this eerie tale about an "octoroon of exceptional beauty" named Merrick, a Mayfair witch with whom he has been obsessed for an eternity. Weaves through time from present-day New Orleans, to Talbot's first meeting with Merrick, to an adventure they shared years ago in the jungles of Guatemala. Flashbacks aside, this story focuses on Talbot's attempt to convince Merrick to use her voodoo magic to conjure up the vampire daughter of his friend and fellow vampire Louis.

The 6th Target by James Patterson
When a horrifying attack leaves one of the four members of the Women's Murder Club struggling for her life, the others fight to keep a madman behind bars before anyone else is hurt. And Lindsay Boxer and her new partner in the San Francisco police department run flat-out to stop a series of kidnappings that has electrified the city: children are being plucked off the streets together with their nannies--but the kidnappers aren't demanding ransom. Amid uncertainty and rising panic, Lindsay juggles the possibility of a new love with an unsolvable investigation, and the knowledge that one member of the club could be on the brink of death.

And just when everything appears momentarily under control, the case takes a terrifying turn, putting an entire city in lethal danger. Lindsay must make a choice she never dreamed she'd face--with no certainty that either outcome has more than a prayer of success.

Blood Music by Greg Bear
Vergil Ulam has created cellular material that can outperform rats in laboratory tests. When the authorities rule that he has exceeded his authorization, Vergil loses his job, but is determined to take his discovery with him.

It Had to Be You by Jill Churchill
The plucky siblings Robert and Lily may live in Grace & Favor Cottage, on the Hudson, in 1933, but they must work to keep it. A local woman has turned her own home into a nursing home, and both Robert and Lily are hired to replace a sick nurse. When a difficult and crabby inmate is murdered only days from his expected natural death, the siblings join forces with the local police to try to solve the case.

Based on the summaries (none of the covers jump at me), I would say the James Patterson novel. Happy Reading!

James Patterson's books are always great so I would definitely go for that one. The ladies from the Woman's Murder Club are always a good bet.

My vote is for James Patterson. His books are a fast paced, easy read and you will probably have a hard time putting it down after you start!

I'm having problems getting motivated lately to read books - maybe I should try votes on my blog too :) I picked Merrick because I have it on my book shelf but haven't read it yet -I'm curious what you'll think. I've had a hard time getting into Anne Rice books, I think because I've been reading alot of action packed urban fantasy lately and her books aren't built like that. Happy reading!

First since I have read both Merrick and 6th Target it was not such a hard pick. I prefer the Women's Murder Club installment by Patterson simply because it is part of the series and a more "modern read" than Merrick, never heard of the other 2 books. Hopes this helps you make up your mind.

I voted for Merrick. I tend to like vampire tales, so that is why I chose it. I haven't read any of Anne Rice's tales, but I would like to eventually. Good luck choosing a book!

I'm gonna say Blood Music, because I'm an SF nut, and all my friends rec Greg Bear's work.

I chose It Had to be You based on my own reading preferences. I don't get into vampires, sci-fi or gruesome violent books. I love cozy mysteries that have a bit of fun in them. After a hard day at work, I don't like to get stressed while reading. I read to relax.

I voted for 6th Target. I read it a few months ago. If you enjoyed any of the other books in the series, you won't be disappointed with this one! Even if you haven't read the first 5 in the series, I think this would still be an enjoyable read!
